Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach stated.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with results like these.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is gone, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, prove once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
