Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party access places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Questers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can look forward to learning which players will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
