The EU might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans imposed by the US on five Europeans working on fighting digital hatred and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

EU Officials Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’

European leaders including the French president charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the visa restrictions targeted figures who have been at the heart of efforts to introduce laws governing American tech companies.

“For far too long, European activists have led organised efforts to pressure American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
