New Details Emerge Concerning the Discovery of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner's Remains
Recent details have emerged concerning the shocking passing of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were found at their Brentwood, Los Angeles property on Sunday.
The Initial Report
A source indicates quoting a family associate, a therapist scheduled for an session was the first to notice something was wrong after not being able to enter the residence. The practitioner then reached out to the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides nearby.
Upon entering the residence, Romy came upon her father's body. Reports state she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Another individual who had accompanied her contacted 911. Afterward, first responders discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Legal Proceedings
Law enforcement have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of murder in the first degree, as well as the alleged use of a deadly weapon, said to be a knife. He is currently in custody without bail.
Clarifications
The person close to the family also disputed several earlier details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick lived in a detached unit on the estate, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that juncture.
Furthermore disputed widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "worried" about Nick's behavior in the weeks leading up to the incident. Rather the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."
This refutation also extends to reports of alleged "unstable" conduct by Nick at a party hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the tragedy. While the source stated they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they asserted that suggestions of a "blow-up" between the two were not correct.
Investigation Timeline
According to law enforcement officials, the medical examiner had not yet established at that point whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Some accounts indicated the condition of their bodies pointed to they had been dead for some hours.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the residence. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, said his client had not received medical clearance and would not be present until Wednesday or later.
