The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
