The second-hand marketplace Members Share Displeasure About Sizing Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Reaction
Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification than originally posted because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
It has advised users to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Updates
Previously, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: last year, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
