Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Supporters'
Fulham Start Strong to Beat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on Frank
Spurs supporters who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "they can't be true Tottenham fans" by manager Frank.
Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the first initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th Premier League at home defeat of 2025.
However the main talking point was the visitors' next score when the keeper gave away the ball well outside his box.
The goalkeeper came out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the touchline.
However, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italy international turned and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by King.
King passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who curled a strike into the net from the touchline measured at 36.6 metres.
Moments afterwards when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Tottenham supporters booed him.
The team were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.
One of those jeering sessions really angered Frank.
"It came to my attention a few of our supporters apparently jeered the situation and booed after, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager commented about the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"[They] can't be true Tottenham fans that act that way. Fair enough booing after the match, no problem, but when we are in play, we are backing each other, we are behind each other going forward."
Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute advantage prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second-half showing.
Ex- Premier League keeper Joe Hart stated that the next goal was "totally preventable".
"I do appreciate the fans' frustration," Hart added. "I know the part Vicario is playing. He's a great squad member, he's a real leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"The keeper was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the decisive score."
'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'
Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italy national team Vicario is in his third campaign with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old stated following the match that he had to accept the feedback.
"The second goal was a mistake of my own, I take accountability for that," he commented.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a bad manner. It was an even bigger mountain to climb."
He said receiving jeers "is part of football".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.
"It is on the team to stay increasingly composed, to focus on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and poise to overturn outcomes. Today is a poor defeat and it is tough to take."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Went Back to the Line'
Despite the keeper's mistake, it was far from an simple goal for Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the next longest-range top division score of the campaign – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally too occurred on Saturday.
The goalscorer stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open net to aim for.
Ten moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and Wilson striking – which was five moments after the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson remarked.
"It amazed me not one of the defenders returned to the line. When not one of them defended the net, my eyes lit up somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a little additional opportunity. Then it was solely about attempting to make the correct contact and get it on target. I felt a good feeling, the moment it left my boot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Bad Spell, All Seems to Work Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager
Although the keeper's error led headlines, this was an all-round bad performance for Tottenham to continue their home struggles.
This was their tenth home defeat of the year in the league, a shared team record matching 1994 and 2003.
The side still have home fixtures against Frank's former club Brentford and title holders Liverpool to come before the end of the year.
Only one of those wins have come after the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
"If you are down 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to overcome," stated Frank.
"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects seems to go against you too – the first was a redirected attempt, the second is a mistake from Vic.
"This result puts us in a place where we have lost an additional game. Every game has a single narrative, today we lost in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was much better and hopefully an aspect we can utilize to learn."
Spurs have been defeated in 4 consecutive at home capital clashes for the initial time in the top division.
Furthermore they are recording nine point five attempts and 3.2 shots on target per match in the division – their lowest rates on file in a one campaign (dating back to 2003-04).
Ex- Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He must accept the stick," the pundit said. "He's accepted a high profile role at a major football club with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
