UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl containing multiple personalities within her must escape from a maze of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Inside her reside four separate souls, all possessing unique anxieties and drives. These entities can take over at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action unfolds within a eerie hospital, while additional clips show the main character exploring a abandoned church.

A World of Individual Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to other people can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to each person."

The core mechanic revolves around controlling whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these souls will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by nurses all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous flowers where their necks are. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the physical form belongs to them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
